Today, much of personality psychology has de-emphasized the importance of individual theories. Rather, most research in the area takes a pan-theoretical approach -- that is, it employs points of agreement across theories. (That is one reason why a fieldwide framework such as the present one is so important to organizing the discipline.)
At the same time, individual theories certainly haven't gone away. Different specific personality theories address different questions about personality and how it operates (Funder, 1998). As such, a specific theory may have a lot to say of value about a specific area of personality. Below are some treatments of psychological theories on the web.
General Overviews of Theories on the Web
An Electronic Textbook of Personality Theory -- Dr. George Boeree, a professor at Shippensburg University, has created an electronic textbook with coverage of many major personality theorists from the 20th century, including his own original theory.
Personality and Consciousness -- This visually elegant site is maintained by Eric Pettifor, who is interested in Greater Anthropology. On the front page, click on a specific theorist's name in the window on the left to find selected writings on topics of importance to the theorist.
New Personality Theories in Development on the Web
Generalized Interpersonal Theory -- This is an exciting new theory about the dimensions of interpersonal relationships, with an extensive, measurement-based description of what the theory means.
Cognitive-Perceptual Theory -- This is a new theory under development by A. R. Bruhn, and deals with autobiographical memory and personality.
